Jessica A. Simmonds, 29, of Franklin Twp., Somerset, was charged with strict liability for a drug-induced death and for distribution of drugs in the death of a 32-year-old man, according to Middlesex Police Chief Matthew P. Geist.

The victim was found dead in his home in December 2021. The Middlesex County Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be the result of the toxic effects of fentanyl.

An investigation by Middlesex Detective Daniel McCue with assistance from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, revealed that Simmonds sold the fentanyl to the victim, which caused his death, Geist said.

Simmonds was being held in the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending a detention hearing to be scheduled in Superior Court in New Brunswick.

The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective McCue at (732) 356-1900 ext. 312.
